Brasil to issue free e-Visas for COP30 attendees

Brasil is now set to issue electronic visas (e-Visas) to citizens from countries participating in the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30), to be held in Belém, Pará, from November 10 to 21, according to the official website of COP30. The e-Visa system is designed to streamline the entry process, offering greater convenience and security for all attendees of this significant international climate event.
Nationals from countries previously requiring a visa to enter Brasil can now apply digitally, eliminating the need to visit a Brazilian consulate in their home country. Until now, this option was only available to citizens of the United States, Canada, and Australia.
"The electronic visa system for COP30 reinforces the Brazilian government's commitment to ensuring that all accredited representatives have the necessary conditions for participation and can quickly and freely obtain the documentation required for their trip to Belém," said Valter Correia, Special Secretary for COP30.
The event is expected to welcome representatives from the 198 signatory countries of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), with an anticipated attendance of 50,000 people. For two weeks, negotiators will seek consensus on global targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming in the heart of the Amazon.
"The implementation of the electronic visa platform for COP30 marks a significant milestone in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' digital transformation process. It facilitates access and speeds up the process for visa applicants around the world. This measure reinforces the ministry's commitment to consular modernization and the promotion of digital and sustainable practices, in line with the conference's objectives," said Márcia Loureiro, Ambassador and Secretary of Brazilian Communities, Consular and Legal Affairs at the ministry.
The development of the e-Visa platform also showcases Brazilian innovation, with the Federal Data Processing Service (Serviço Federal de Processamento de Dados/SERPRO) playing a crucial role. "This initiative accelerates visa issuance and promotes inclusion and accessibility, which are essential for such a large-scale international gathering," said André Agatte, Director of Business, Government, and Markets at SERPRO.
To apply for an e-Visa, applicants must first receive official acceptance to participate in COP30 from the UNFCCC. The e-Visa is free for all confirmed, accredited participants.
We recommend applying as soon as you receive your acceptance. Applications must be submitted at least four weeks before the event's November 10 start date. The estimated processing time from submission to e-Visa issuance is 10 business days.
The COP30 e-Visa is valid until December 31, 2025, and permits multiple entries into the country during this period. Participants must present the document upon arrival, in either digital or printed format. Individuals under 18 years of age must apply for a physical visa at a consulate.
