Bulgaria’s annual ınflation rises to 6.2% in April, highest in Eurozone

Annual inflation in Bulgaria rose to 6.2% in April 2026, marking the highest level among euro area countries, according to preliminary data from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. Against this backdrop, inflation across the Eurozone as a whole is expected to rise for a fourth consecutive month, reaching 3.0% in April compared with 2.6% in March, the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) reported.
Among euro area countries, which Bulgaria joined on January 1, 2026, the highest annual inflation rates after Bulgaria were recorded in Lithuania (4.9%), Greece (4.6%), Belgium (4.3%), and Slovakia (4.0%). The lowest rates were observed in Finland (2.3%), Malta (2.4%), as well as Netherlands and France (both at 2.5%).
Among the main components of inflation in the euro area, energy is expected to post the highest annual increase in April at 10.9%, up from 5.1% in March. It is followed by services (3.0% versus 3.2% in March), food, alcohol and tobacco (2.5% compared to 2.4%), and non-energy industrial goods (0.8% versus 0.7%).
On Wednesday, Bulgaria’s National Statistical Institute reported in its flash estimate that monthly inflation in Bulgaria, measured by the Consumer Price Index, is expected to reach 2.0%, while annual inflation stands at 7.1% in April 2026. So-called flash inflation provides early insight into price dynamics ahead of the publication of final and detailed statistical data, allowing Bulgaria to be directly compared with the other 20 euro area countries following its accession to the monetary union on January 1, 2026.
The NSI data are based on CPI measurements, while Eurostat’s figures rely on the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices.
