Baku, September 29 (AZERTAC). Korea DPR scored the second record-breaking equalizer of Azerbaijan 2012 to secure a 1-1 draw with USA and a place in the quarter-finals, while the North Americans go out on goal difference.

The pair met in the inaugural FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final in 2008, a 2-1 win for Korea DPR, and like that game it only took the USA two minutes to score. Amber Munerlyn floated in a deep cross from the right, which Darian Jenkins was on hand to tap in at the far post.

The celebrations were short-lived, just 72 seconds later Korea DPR were level - beating the tournament record for quickest equalizer of 80 seconds set against them by France four days ago.

It was Ri Un Sim who got it, netting her fifth of Azerbaijan 2012, taking Jon So Yon’s cross on the chest, turning in the area and firing past Jane Campbell.

After the break Ri left American hearts in mouths as her 25-yard strike whistled past the top corner just after the hour. Five minutes later she again threatened, turning well inside the area only to hit the side-netting.

With time running out, captain Morgan Andrews was inches away from getting the goal they needed, rattling the bar with a free-kick from 40 yards, but it was too little too late. France's 10-2 victory over Gambia saw them narrowly miss out.
