EGYPTIAN PARLIAMENTARY DELEGATION MEETS WITH ADMINISTRATION OF ABSHERON EXECUTIVE POWER
The delegation of the Egyptian parliament met October 25 with the Absheron Executive Power in Azerbaijan.
Head of the Absheron Executive Power Zakir Farajov said Azerbaijan-Egypt relationships were established by national leader Heydar Aliyev in 1996. After President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Egypt in May 2007, bilateral ties marked a new era of development. Among the documents signed, there was a memorandum of understanding between the Absheron district and Al Qalyubiyah province. The memo envisaged cooperation in the agriculture, industry, irrigation, local development, culture and charity.
Under the memorandum, the 14-member delegation led by head of the Absheron Executive Power visited Egypt on July 4-8, and had discussions on cooperation with the local administration of the Al Qalyubiyah province. As a result of the visit, the sides agreed to earmark a parcel of land for organization of regular exhibitions of Egyptian goods in Azerbaijan, name one of the streets in the Azerbaijani city of Khyrdalan after Al Qalyubiyah province, create conditions for Egyptian pharmaceutical company to operate in Azerbaijan, build a diagnostics center in Absheron district, establish the “Absheron” park in Al Qalyubiyah province, create Heydar Aliyev memorial complex in the park, and name one of the central streets in the Egyptian city of Benha after Absheron.
Z. Farajov said one of 10 newly constructed schools became Arabic language school. It was provided with textbooks, and modern equipment.
During the meting, member of the Egyptian parliament, head of the Egypt-Azerbaijan friendship group Ahmad Omar Hashim stressed that after President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Egypt, cooperation between the two countries became more effective. He noted that Azerbaijan is one of the fastest growing economies in the world. He found the need to establish such kind of relationships with other Egyptian provinces as well.
The Egyptian delegation came to the Heydar Aliyev Park, and laid flowers at the national leader’s monument. They signed the guest book at the Heydar Aliyev Museum.
Present at the meeting were Egyptian ambassador to Azerbaijan Youssef Ahmad al-Sharkawi, head of the Azerbaijan-Egypt interparliamentary friendship group Miri Ganbarov and member of the group Elton Mammadov.
