Baku, January 16, Tamilla Mammadova, AZERTAC
Azerbaijani-Israeli relations are based on a centuries-old history of good neighborliness between the Jewish community and the Azerbaijani people, Ariel Cohen, the leading Atlantic Council expert said during the latest episode of the “Azerbaijan and the World” program broadcast by AZERTAC.
According to him, in Azerbaijan’s capital—Baku—as well as in Krasnaya Sloboda (Red Settlement) and other regions of the country, these ties have traditionally been characterized by stability and mutual respect.
The expert noted that the modern stage of bilateral relations received a powerful impetus after Azerbaijan gained independence and has been consistently developing since then. As an example of the high level of economic interaction, he pointed to SOCAR’s participation in the exploration of gas fields in the Mediterranean Sea within Israel’s economic interests zone.
Cohen also emphasized the presence of serious military-technical cooperation between the two countries, active interaction in the field of agriculture, as well as supplies of Azerbaijani oil to Israel, adding that Azerbaijani-Israeli relations are a successful model of international partnership, formed thanks to the political will of the leadership of both countries and personally of President Ilham Aliyev.
