Fire at Domodedovo airport fully extinguished, Russian Emengencies Ministry
Baku, September 3, AZERTAC
The fire at the Domodedovo airport has been completely extinguished, the Russian Emergencies Ministry`s Moscow region branch told TASS.
"At 8:10am Moscow Time, it was announced that open fire had been extinguished, and at 8:45 Moscow Time - that the fire had been fully extinguished," a spokesperson said.
No victims were reported. More than 3,000 people were evacuated from the airport. According to the Emergencies Ministry press service, cables caught fire in the airport's baggage department, covering an area of about 20 square meters. At 7:43am, the fire was localized. The emergencies ministry sent special equipment for removing smoke to the airport.
The ministry noted that "all arriving planes are landing without delays. However, departing flights are delayed," it said.
Law enforcement agencies told TASS that short circuit in an electric cable was the most likely cause of the fire.
