FOREIGN MINISTER MEETS WITH EGYPTIAN PARLIAMENTARIANS
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov met here today with visiting delegation of the Egypt-Azerbaijan interparliamentary friendship group, the Ministry’s Press Center reported.
The Egyptian parliamentarians said the goal of their visit was to explore the possibilities to enhance political, economic and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.
They stressed the importance of the visit Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev had paid to Egypt in May of this year. In this context, the guests welcomed the decision to open the “Egyptian Garden” in Absheron peninsula and the “Azerbaijani Garden” in Qalyubia governorate of Egypt.
Minister Mammadyarov said the historic ties between the two nations constitute a good basis for strengthening the cooperation, including within international organizations.
Speaking of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, he appreciated Egypt’s support for restoration of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
The parliamentarians reaffirmed their support for Azerbaijan’s right cause in the conflict, and expressed confidence that backed by the UN, Organization of the Islamic Conference and other international structures, the country will have its legitimate rights in the occupied territories restored.
They also pointed out that opening of the Azerbaijan consulate in Sharm-el-Sheik, Alexandria or other Egyptian city would promote economic and tourism cooperation between the two countries.
