Great Silk Way boxing tournament underway in Baku
Baku, March 7 (AZERTAC). The fifth international boxing tournament Great Silk Way is underway in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku, press service of the country’s Boxing Federation said.
The tournament involves 84 participants from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Georgia, Turkey, India, Moldova, Qatar and the host country.
Three Azerbaijani boxers took the ring on Tuesday. Elvin Mamishzade won silver medalist Kamran Orujov with a score of 19:7 in the weight category 52 kg. Another Azerbaijani boxer Soltan Migitinov (75 kg) three times knocked down Darbek Aslanbek (Qatar) and the fight was stopped.
Also Azerbaijani Muhammedrasul Majidov defeated Kazakhstan’s boxer Kanshibek Konkabaev.
Medalist of World and European Championships Samir Mammadov (56 kg) lost to the winner of the World Youth Championship Shaban Shahpelengov.
Emil Maharramov (69 kg), who has been leading the Azerbaijani national team for many years, knocked out Qatar’s Hzam Ahmad Nabati.
The tournament which is to run until March 9 will define the composition of the Azerbaijan national team for the April Olympic qualifier in Trabzon, Turkey.
