GUAM`S TENTH ANNIVERSARY MARKED IN CZECHIA
Embassies of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova in Prague organized an official reception to mark the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development, GUAM.
Among those in attendance at the reception were Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg, senior officials at the Czech President`s Administration, members of the Czech Parliament`s Apparatus, representatives of international corps and ambassadors of fifteen countries.
Addressing the event, Azeri Ambassador in Prague Tahir Tagizade spoke of the history of GUAM`s establishment.
He stressed the organization`s major goals are establishment of democratic values, respect to human rights, integration into European structures and establishment of cooperation with Euroatlantic structures.
Tagizade said three member states of GUAM are living in the state of conflict, and stressed the importance of speeding up joint efforts towards peaceful solution of these conflicts in accordance with international legal norms and principles of territorial integrity of states.
The Azeri envoy noted the importance of GUAM-USA, GUAM-Poland and GUAM-Japan formats.
Tagizade also praised the Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus` offer to create the “Friends of Guam” group under the European Union.
