Indonesia’s Independence Day celebrated in Baku

The Indonesian Embassy in Baku has held a flag-hoisting ceremony to mark the country`s 78th Independence Day. This ceremony was led by the Ambassador of Indonesia to Azerbaijan, Hildi Hamid, and was attended by Embassy’s staffs, as well as Indonesian citizens and students in Azerbaijan, friends of Indonesia in Azerbaijan, and Indonesian scholarship recipients from Azerbaijan.
The celebration of Indonesia’s 78th Independence Day in Baku was commenced by a National Flag Hoisting Ceremony performed by a troop consisting of three Indonesian students in Azerbaijan, accompanied by Indonesia’s national anthem “Indonesia Raya” sung by all Indonesians in attendance. The ceremony was then continued with a moment of silence in remembrance of Indonesian heroes who had committed the ultimate sacrifice to achieve Indonesia’s independence back in 1945 and the reading of the text of the proclamation of the independence of Indonesia. The ceremony was concluded by a prayer for the welfare and advancement of the nation and country.
As part of the celebration, the solemn ceremony was followed by a cake-cutting ceremony by Ambassador Hildi Hamid and spouse, Mrs. Diah Permata. Furthermore, Ambassador Hildi Hamid presented prizes to the winners of the series of Indonesia’s traditional games competitions which have been held in July, 2023. Several games included in the competitions are domino, table tennis, cracker eating, and dancing chair. As for kids, there are also some competitions, namely marble race, fishing, hat hanging, and others.
The celebration of Indonesia’s 78th Independence Day in Baku was warm and lively as it was concluded with a gathering of the attendees. Various Indonesian traditional dishes, such as nasi liwet (which consists of coconut rice, spices marinated chicken and egg, green beans, and carrots), and other traditional snacks were enjoyed together. In addition to that, most attendees wore Indonesian traditional costume as part of the tradition.
The theme for Indonesia’s 78th Independence Day is “Moving Forward, Advancing Indonesia.” It reflects the spirit of the people of Indonesia to continue to move forward and collaborate with each other to further realize the advancement of Indonesia. It is focused on the value of working collectively and moving together in harmony.
