Japan stay perfect, Mexico out
Baku, September 30 (AZERTAC). Japan sailed into the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-17 Women`s World Cup after a 9-0 victory over Mexico saw them top Group C having scored 17 goals without conceding.
The Young Nadeshiko were virtually assured of progression to the quarter-finals, with only a freak set of results able to deny them. By the half-hour mark no kind of catastrophe could send them home today, having already scored five.
Neat play between Yui Narumiya, Akari Shiraki and Risa Shimizu saw them open the scoring, before Narumiya converted from 12 yards after being brought down by Jessica Valdez.
The Japanese captain was beginning to run the show and her pinpoint cross for Shiraki gave her the easiest of finishes. It was her creativity again that brought about number four, Ayaka Inoue benefitting this time, before firing past Gabriela Paz.
Shiraki added a second goal to her tally, converting after a cross from the right and, truth be told, Mexico were fortunate to get to half-time just five down.
The Asian outfit took their foot off the gas to some extent in the second period, but still managed to add a further four goals to their tally, starting with a brilliant effort from Inoue - her second of the match.
Hina Sugita hit the seventh after being assisted by Shimizu, Yuka Momiki increased the lead further with an impressive free-kick and Mizuki Nakamura rounded off the punishment with a header as Mexico said goodbye to Azerbaijan 2012.
