Kuwait-Azerbaijan relations discussed in Milli Majlis
Baku, May 16 (AZERTAC). Speaker of Azerbaijan`s parliament Ogtay Asadov has met head of Kuwait-Azerbaijan friendship group Mubarak Saleh Al-Najada.
They discussed prospects for development of Kuwait-Azerbaijan relations.
Asadov said Azerbaijan attached great importance to boosting relationship with gulf countries, as well as Kuwait. He said reciprocal visits should be intensified to expand relationship between the two countries. “These visits will contribution to development of interparliamentary ties and intergovernmental cooperation.”
The speaker recalled a visit of Kuwaiti deputy Prime Minister and foreign minister Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah to Azerbaijan, adding fruitful discussions were held during the trip.
Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Asadov noted 20 percent of Azerbaijani territories were still under Armenia`s occupation. “Due to official Yerevan`s unconstructive position the conflict still remains unresolved.”
Mubarak Saleh Al-Najada, in turn, said his visit to Azerbaijan made deep impressions on him. He noted Azerbaijan was a part of the Islamic world. “We consider that we are in a friendly country. Though Azerbaijan was a part of the soviet empire for long years, this country remained committed to its religion and traditions.”
The Kuwaiti parliamentarian noted national leader Heydar Aliyev was a respectful politician with great influence not only in Azerbaijan, but also the world. “The Kuwaiti people respect Heydar Aliyev as a prominent statesman and great leader.” Mubarak Saleh Al-Najada noted Kuwait supports Azerbaijan, which respects international law.
He expressed hope that Azerbaijan-Kuwait ties would develop even more covering all spheres.
Mubarak Saleh Al-Najada handed over Kuwaiti parliamentary speaker`s invitation letter to Ogtay Asadov.
