Milli Majlis defense and security affairs standing committee’s meeting held
Baku, May 13 (AZERTAC). The defense and security affairs standing committee of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan Republic today held a meeting.
The meeting discussed the Draft Law “On ratification of the Agreement between the Defense Ministry of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the International Military Sports Council (CISM) on organization of the First World Military Football Cup”.
The Committee’s chairman Ziyafet Askarov said the Agreement was inked on February 27, 2013 in Baku and reflects the obligations of the sides, the holding of contests, broadcasting and regulation of other necessary questions.
The First World Military Football Cup will take place in Baku on June 3- July 16, bring together 16 member countries of the CISM. Brazil, the U.S. and Canada will represent the Americas, while Algeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Kenya and Mali will join from Africa, Oman, Iraq, Bahrain, and Qatar from Asia, and Germany and France from Europe. Azerbaijan, the host country, will be the 16th team.
After discussions, the Draft will be submitted to the plenary session for consideration.
The World Military Cup is a football competition for national military teams organized by the CISM. The tournament has been held since 1946 and was originally called the World Military Championship. The name changed for the 2001 edition. When the multi-sport Military World Games was set up in 1995 the football championship was incorporated into it, but it is still being held independently every two years.
