National Center for Tolerance opens in Baku
Baku, May 30 (AZERTAC). The 2nd World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue under the motto “Living Together Peacefully in a Diverse World” has started in Baku. The event is held under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
On May 29, on the sidelines of the World Forum, the State Committee for Work with Religious Associations organized an international presentation of the National Center for Tolerance in Baku.
Prior to the presentation, the guests watched a short film “Azerbaijan is a country of tolerance”.
Chairman of the State Committee Elshad Iskandarov highlighted key goals of creating the National Center of Tolerance.
Azerbaijan’s Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev, High Representative of the UN Alliance of Civilizations Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, ISESCO Secretary General Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri talked about the importance of the presentation.
The initiative will play a special role in further strengthening the interfaith relations and contribute to tolerance between religions and cultures.
The speakers emphasized the creation of the National Center for Tolerance in Azerbaijan can be an example to the world.
A congratulatory letter sent by the UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova was read out at the event.
ISESCO, the UN missions in Azerbaijan and the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations then signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
