National leader Heydar Aliyev`s 90 jubilee marked in Jordan
Baku, May 3 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s embassy in Jordan has organized an event to mark national leader Heydar Aliyev`s 90th anniversary.
Ambassador Sabir Agabayov spoke of life and political career of national leader Heydar Aliyev, architect and founder of modern independent Azerbaijan, world-famous political figure.
The diplomat highlighted the national leader`s returning to power by the insistent demand of the people for the second time, after which the country strengthened its statehood, independence, prevented the civil war and restored socio-political and economic stability.
Agabayov said Azerbaijan`s achievements in foreign politics were directly connected with the name of great leader Heydar Aliyev. The ambassador stressed that today Heydar Aliyev`s political course was successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev.
Board member of Jordan-Azerbaijan Friendship Group, former minister Saleh Irshigat touched upon political and economic difficulties faced by Azerbaijan in late 1980s and early 1990s, saying that Heydar Aliyev`s returning to power at that time was of great importance for the people and the state.
Recalling his visit to Baku in 2011, Irshidat shared his pleasant memories from his meeting with President Ilham Aliyev.
He said national leader Heydar Aliyev and the late King Hussein were close friends.
“There is a park named after Heydar Aliyev in Amman, while Baku has a King Hussein street. These facts further bolster relationship between our nations,” Irshidat said.
Secretary General of Jordan-Azerbaijan Friendship Group Khalid Hamshavi recalled his meeting with national leader Heydar Aliyev in Baku in 1981.
Professor of the Philadelphia University Amir Nizara, who studied in Azerbaijan in the first years of the country`s independence, said he witnessed Armenia`s military aggression against Azerbaijan. He said due to efforts of Heydar Aliyev a ceasefire was reached and stability was restored in the country.
Chair of Jordan-Azerbaijan Friendship Group`s Women Committee Zumrud Dadashova gave a lecture in English highlighting the national leader`s life and activities.
The event also saw a film featuring life and activities of Heydar Aliyev.
The embassy also carried out an exhibition of books in various languages about Heydar Aliyev, as well as his meetings with world leaders.
Jordanian respected political and public figures, businessmen, foreign ambassadors in Jordan and representatives of the Azerbaijani community were present at the event.
