National leader Heydar Aliyev`s bust unveiled in Los Angels
Washington, May 9 (AZERTAC). A bust to Azerbaijan`s national leader Heydar Aliyev has been unveiled in the building of the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles.
The bronze bust was made by well-known Russian-born US sculptor Sergey Eylanbekov.
Representatives of local authorities, foreign diplomats, scholars and cultural figures based in Los Angeles, Azerbaijani, Turkish and Jewish diaspora members and the staff of the Consulate General participated in the opening ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, Consul General Nasimi Aghayev highlighted the merits of former President Heydar Aliyev in strengthening the independence and statehood of Azerbaijan, and ensuring its economic development.
Aghayev added that Heydar Aliyev`s honorable memory will live in the hearts of the Azerbaijani people.
Aghayev said Heydar Aliyev had always attached great importance to friendly relations with the United States, and the two countries established strategic partnership covering various important fields thanks to his efforts.
He went on to say that President Ilham Aliyev now successfully continues the domestic and foreign policy pursued by Heydar Aliyev.
Then, Deputy Chief of Protocol for the County of Los Angeles Lourdes Saab read out a congratulatory letter signed by all the members of Los Angeles County Board of Governors in connection with the 90th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev.
Addressing the event, Founding Editor of Azerbaijan International magazine Betty Blair said that she had repeatedly met with Heydar Aliyev, accompanied him in different countries, in particular, his official visit to the United States, and made interviews with him.
Sharing her best memories, Blair said that along with being a powerful political leader, Heydar Aliyev was a great man and patriot.
The ceremony ended with a dinner reception.
