NEW BANKNOTES SYMBOLIZE AZERBAIJAN’S HISTORY, CULTURE AND INTEGRATION INTO GLOBAL COMMUNITY
1 AZM (Azerbaijani Manat) - culture (symbolizes Azerbaijan’s rich traditional and modern culture): the front side of the banknote displays images of Azerbaijani folk musical instruments, and the reverse side - ornaments of ancient Azerbaijani carpets.
5 AZM - literature (symbolizes Azerbaijan’s valuable contribution to the world literature): Ancient writers, poets, and books are imaged on a banknote’s right side and rock drawings of Gobustan, samples Orhon-Yenisey and contemporary alphabet on the underside.
10 AZM - history: (symbolizes Azerbaijan’s ancient traditions of statehood) Images of old Baku, Sharvanshahs’ Palace, Maiden Tower against a background of Icheri Shekher wall on the front side and ornaments of ancient Azerbaijani carpet and Azerbaijani-European integration map underside.
20 AZM - Karabakh (symbolizes the major goal, the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan) On the front page are displayed signs of power - a sword, a helmet and a shield. As well as the symbol of peace - ‘harybulbul’, and national ornaments of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani-European integration map on the underside.
50 AZM - education and future (Azerbaijan’s power and progress lies in education is): the front side: youth, stairs as a symbol of progress, the sun as a symbol of force and light, chemical and mathematical symbols as a sign of science; underside: ornaments of ancient Azerbaijani carpets, and Azerbaijan-Europe integration.
100 AZM - economics and development (symbolizes economic development, powerful and flourishing Azerbaijan): architectural symbols from antiquity up to now, symbols of Azerbaijan national currency ‘manat’ and economic growth on are displayed on the front side, and images of Azerbaijani carpets ornaments and Azerbaijan-Europe integration on the reverse side.
The Azerbaijan currency consists of 6 banknotes of the values of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 AZM and 6 metal coins of the values of 1, 3, 5, 10, 20 and 50 kopecks. The first lot of the new banknotes and coins has been already delivered to Baku. The presentation ceremony will take place within the next few days.
