NOBEL PRIZE WINNER IVAR GIAEVER ARRIVES IN AZERBAIJAN
Nobel prizewinner, well-known American scientist in the field of information technologies Ivar Giaever arrived September 24 in Baku to attend the 1st International Conference on Material and Information Sciences in High Technologies.
Welcoming the guest, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Communication and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov underlined that Mr. Giaever’s consultations might be very useful for researches in the high technologies. Mr. Abbasov noted that the well-known scientists, representatives of the business circles from Japan, USA, Germany, Russia and other countries will attend the conference, which is to take place in Baku, from 26 to 29 September. The results of the conference will play important role in application of the high technologies in special economic zones (SEZ), which is to be created in Azerbaijan, the Minister said.
Prof. Ivar Giaever was born in Norway, in 1923. In 1973, Mr. Giaever together with his colleague Brian David was awarded with Nobel Prize for his work in the electrical engineering. Currently, Mr. Giaever is the President of the Applied Biophysics Company.
