Pakistan jolted by earthquake, tremors felt in India and Afghanistan

Many cities of Pakistan including capital Islamabad jolted on Wednesday after a 5.7 magnitude earthquake tremors were felt. The earthquake was felt in India, Pakistan and Afghanistan. The epicenter of the earthquake was near Dera Ghazi Khan Region in the Punjab province of Pakistan while its depth was 10 kilometers.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the earthquake originated at 12:28pm Pakistan Standard Time (PST) in many parts of the country. On the other hand, as per the US Geological Survey, a magnitude 5.4 earthquake was felt in India, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The epicenter of the earthquake was near Dera Ghazi Khan Region in the Punjab province of Pakistan while its depth was 10 kilometers. Soon after the earthquake tremors were felt across various cities and regions in Pakistan, people rushed out of buildings for safety.
In India, tremors rippled across capital New Delhi and the neighbouring region after an earthquake of magnitude 5.8 struck Pakistan at 12:58 pm (IST), the Indian National Center for Seismology confirmed.
The earthquake was felt in several parts of the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces of Pakistan including the federal capital. It is worth mentioning that earthquakes are common in Pakistan and India and large parts of the South Asian region are seismically active. On October 08, 2005, a magnitude 7.6 quake killed thousands of people in Pakistan and Jammu & Kashmir.
