PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV VISITS SLEEPER FACTORY
President Ilham Aliyev got acquainted with the railway sleeper factory of the “Azerinshaatservis” joint-company in the Alat settlement of Garadagh region on Thursday.
Ferro-concrete sleeper is one of the main materials used in building and repairing railways.
Until now, the country has relied on import. It led to loss of time and money. Today, the factory satisfies the country’s sleeper demand. Baku-Akhalkalaki-Kars railway project augments the significance of the factory. 
The construction of the factory began in 2005 and ended in late 2006. The factory worth AZN 4.2 million is the only one of its kind in the region, meeting modern standards. The equipment was delivered by the German company Walter Beton GMBH. The production capacity of the factory is 240 thousand sleepers per year. It is enough to build 75-80 km of new railway tracks.
The factory presently employs 72 people. The factory uses local raw materials largely. The metal for manufacturing sleepers is imported from Italy.
President Aliyev gave recommendations to increase the volume of production.
