PRESIDENT OF UKRAINE – HONORARY DOCTOR OF BAKU SLAVONIC UNIVERSITY
To this end, a ceremony of handing over the high title to the Ukrainian President was held at the University, 8 September.
Warmly greeted by students and tutors, the head of the Ukrainian State and the delegation familiarized with activity of the Ukrainian Center at the University.
Here, the President of Ukraine has met representatives of the Ukrainian Diaspora of Azerbaijan, as well.
Welcoming the honored guest on behalf of the faculty and students of University, rector of BSU Kamal Abdullayev said “on decision of the Academic Council of the University, for outstanding merits in development of cooperation between Ukraine and Azerbaijan, strengthening of friendly contacts between two peoples, expansion and deepening of relations between two countries in the field of science, education and culture, has decided to confer the title of the Honorary Doctor of the Baku Slavonic University to the President of Ukraine Mr. Yushchenko”.
The rector with pride has noted, that in development of spiritual, scientific, cultural relations between Azerbaijan and Ukraine the special role is playing the Baku Slavonic University, created by the Decree of the nationwide leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev in 2000 on the basis of Pedagogical Institute of Russian Language and Literature, functioning since 1946. For short term of existence, in new quality, this University has turned to a unique scientific and cultural center.
In his remarks, the rector has emphasized, that as a result of purposeful activity of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko, the relations between two countries have entered a new stage and successfully develop at a level of strategic partnership.

Then, rector of University, professor K. Abdullayev has handed over to the head of the Ukrainian state the Diploma of the Honorary Doctor of the Baku Slavonic University.

Addressing the ceremony participants, President of Ukraine said, that for him it is great honor to receive the title of the Honorary Doctor of the Baku Slavonic University. “I am really glad to address to you on the ancient, nice Azerbaijani land which has given the world of many thinkers, outstanding statesmen, - the head of Ukraine has told. - Together with everyone who loves Azerbaijan, I wish it prosperity, and closely I watch how dynamically the Azerbaijan develops as an independent state”.
President of Ukraine congratulated the Azerbaijani people on the reached successes and has assured, that people of Azerbaijan would always have a friend as the Ukrainian state and Ukrainian people.
Speaking about the foreign policy of Ukraine, President V. Yushchenko has emphasized: “We very much appreciate our mutual relations with Azerbaijan. The pleasant factor is growing level of commodity circulation between two countries. He has expressed satisfaction with the negotiations lead during official visit and the important documents signed.
The President of Ukraine has especially emphasized necessity of activation of the work of the international organization - GUAM with headquarters in Kiev.
The President of Ukraine, once again highly having estimated his official visit to Azerbaijan, the negotiations, the signed documents, has noted, that our mutual relations are in a fine, dynamical phase, the bilateral relations have excellent prospects, including in the field of realization of concrete economic projects.
