Reception on national leader Heydar Aliyev`s 90th anniversary held in London VIDEO
London, May 8 (AZERTAC). The Embassy of Azerbaijan in the United Kingdom and SOCAR`s representation in London have co-organized a reception to mark the 90th anniversary of national leader Heydar Aliyev.
The event was attended by UK officials, representatives of Azerbaijani organizations and members of diplomatic corps in London.
Ambassador Fakhraddin Gurbanov briefed the event participants on the role of national leader Heydar Aliyev in developing and strengthening the Azerbaijani statehood. He said development of democratic and independent Azerbaijan, as well as the country`s increasing prestige across the world was associated with national leader Heydar Aliyev.
The diplomat pointed out that thanks to efforts of Heydar Aliyev important steps were taken to ensure comprehensive development of Azerbaijan, which faced serious difficulties in early 1990s.
The ambassador also spoke of the foreign policy founded by national leader, saying that Azerbaijan`s successful relationship with foreign countries, including the UK, was established due to Heydar Aliyev`s efforts.
Co-chair of the Anglo-Azerbaijani Society Lord Fraser highlighted Azerbaijan`s development. He also praised what national leader Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev did for the Azerbaijani people.
British researcher Tamara Dragadze spoke of her visits to Azerbaijan and meetings with national leader Heydar Aliyev.
Head of SOCAR representation in London Rufat Afandiyev highlighted national leader Heydar Aliyev`s oil strategy. He noted the “Contract of century”, a turning point in development of Azerbaijan`s oil industry, was signed due to the national leader`s wise policy.
Former UK ambassador to Azerbaijan Roger Thomas spoke of contributions that Heydar Aliyev made to development of Azerbaijan. Thomas said that during his mission in Baku he met several times with Heydar Aliyev.
The event featured a photo exhibition on national leader Heydar Aliyev`s life and activities.
