Romania to acquire 200 Patriot missiles: defense ministry

The Romania Ministry of National Defense is set to acquire 200 missiles for Patriot systems in an allied contract, with the total cost exceeding one billion euros (1.1 billion U.S. dollars), according to Xinhua.
This procurement, part of a consolidated multinational effort under the European Sky Shield Initiative, aims to enhance Romania's defense capabilities, according to a press release from the ministry on Thursday.
Romania, alongside Germany, the Netherlands, and Spain, will benefit from the NATO Support and Procurement Agency's (NSPA) joint purchase of up to 1,000 PAC-2 GEM-T missiles for their respective Patriot surface-to-air missile systems.
The acquisition, approved by the Romanian Parliament, carries an estimated total cost of 1.09 billion euros, excluding VAT, covering spare parts, related services, and Foreign Military Sales (FMS) expenses, according to the ministry. (1 euro = 1.10 U.S. dollar)
