“ROUND-TABLE” DISCUSSES CONSIDERATION OF COMPLAINTS AND APPEALS DURING ELECTION PROCESS
Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan Republic, with the organizational support of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe and the International Fund of Electoral Systems (IFES), on November 7 has arranged in "Crescent Beach” hotel a “round table". The action was devoted to possible amendments in the Election Code of Azerbaijan, concerning consideration of complaints and references during elections.
Representatives of political parties, local NGOs, MPs and also heads of representations of OSCE, IFES and other international organizations took part at the event.
Chairman of Central Electoral Commission Mazahir Panahov expressed gratitude to the Venice Commission for the efforts to bring the Azerbaijan election legislation in conformity with the international standards.
"I with greater satisfaction wish to declare, that in 125 district election commissions, we shall conduct elections in well equipped buildings. And it will render very serious influence on quality of elections", Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission told.
According to head of the IFES in Azerbaijan, Daniel Blessington, election process should guarantee fundamental laws, namely the right to elect and be elected. In his opinion, all complaints should be considered by independent and impartial body. He also emphasized necessity of bringing to the criminal liability of the persons breaking the election legislation.
