“ROUNDTABLE” ON DEVELOPMENT OF PARLIAMENTARISM IN AZERBAIJAN HELD IN MILLI MAJLIS
A “roundtable” meeting on development of parliamentarism in Azerbaijan was held Wednesday in the Milli Majlis, parliament of Azerbaijan.
Petro Morgos, Chief of Party for USAID Parliamentary Program, said implementation of the program began six months ago. The two-year program focuses on capacity-building of the parliamentary staff, helping establish transparency mechanisms in the legislature, enhancing the capacity of the Parliament. The program will also allow to strengthen ties between the constituencies and election commissions in the parliament.
MM Deputy Speaker Bahar Muradova said drastic changes occurred in the work of the parliament, and its relations with the public. She said comprehensive trainings have been conducted to all MP assistants for 102 constituencies.
“Roundtable” participants heard the presentations on the history of Azerbaijani parliament, international experience, and relationships between MPs, parliament and constituencies.
Azerbaijan Parliamentary Program has been implemented since February 2007 under the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the USAID and Milli Majlis.
This program is schedule to cover Baku and regions of Azerbaijan next year. Moreover, MP assistants will take additional trainings.
