SCWRA CHAIRMAN MEETS WITH NATO PA DELEGATION
Chairman of the State Committee on Work with Religious Associations (SCWRA) in Azerbaijan Idayat Orujov met with visiting delegation of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly led by Chairman of its Civil Dimension Committee’s Sub-Committee on Democratic Governance Tchetin Kazak.
Orujov noted that freedom of religion is enshrined in the Constitution of Azerbaijan, and the religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence of different confessions in the country is held up by the international community as an example.
“We have never had serious conflicts between religious confessions,” he stressed.
The Chairman noted with regret that no mosques or monuments of the Azerbaijani culture left standing in the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh and neighboring areas as a result of the Armenian aggression.
Tchetin Kazak noted his delegation includes members of the NATO countries’ parliaments, whose mission is to monitor the observance of the democratic values including human rights and freedoms. He expressed satisfaction with religious situation in Azerbaijan.
Afterwards, SCWRA Chairman Idayat Orujov responded to questions from the members of the NATO PA delegation.
