Speaker Valentina Matviyenko: Today, Azerbaijan and Russia are strategic partners and allies

“Today, Russia and Azerbaijan are strategic partners and allies, which is primarily because it serves both nations’ interests,” Valentina Matviyenko, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia, told Monday, during the opening ceremony of the 22nd meeting of the Interparlimentary Commission on cooperation between the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
“We are building our relations based on the principles of friendship, mutual respect, also considering each other’s national interests. Obviously, the will of both President Vladimir Putin and President Ilham Aliyev, who are committed to strengthening the cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan, is instrumental in this regard,” Matviyenko added.
