STATEMENT OF MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF REPUBLIC OF AZERBAIJAN
The Republic of Azerbaijan welcomes principled and unambiguous position of the international community towards so-called “presidential elections” conducted July 19, 2007 in the occupied lands of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Once more expressing its constant respect for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and rejecting illegal “elections”, international community signaled to those who try to earn political capital from sufferings of Azerbaijani internally displaced persons. Azerbaijan shares its international partners’ concern over negative impact of illegal “elections” on the ongoing peace process.
The attempt of the Republic of Armenia to cover up its policy of annexation and occupation of Azerbaijani lands resulted in inevitable and complete failure. With its actions, Armenia deceives none but its public. International community is well aware of the situation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
The Republic of Azerbaijan will never accept the resolution based on the “fait accompli” that the Armenian side tries to push forward. Resolution of the conflict in the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan and its surroundings may be based only on the respect for the territorial integrity of Azerbajan, inviotability of its interntationally recognized boders, peaceful coexistance of Armenian and Azerbaijani communities of Nagorno-Karabakh region within Azerbaijan and thier full and equal benefiting from the democracy and prosperity.
Azerbaijan expects that failing to accept respective offers of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs in Saint Petersburg Armenian side will revise its approach and choose a constructive policy.
Azerbaijan once more urges the Armenian side to give up its destructive policy and hold talks with good will instead of wasting precious time in order to seek the soonest and final resolution of the conflict.
