“Taghiyev: Oil” film screened in U.S.

The feature film “Taghiyev: Oil”, produced by the Baku Media Center, premiered in Los Angeles, the U.S., home to Hollywood, the heart of the American film industry.
The event gathered over 100 attendees, including representatives of the U.S. film sector, and featured a Q&A session with the film’s director, Zaur Gasimli.
The screening marks another successful step in promoting Azerbaijani cinema to international audiences.
The film has been submitted by Azerbaijan as the official candidate for the “Best International Feature Film” category at the 98th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (“Oscar”) Awards. The shortlist for the category will be announced on December 16, 2025, while the awards ceremony is scheduled to be held in Los Angeles on March 15, 2026.
“Taghiyev: Oil” was produced by the Baku Media Center with support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Culture, and the Cinema Agency.
The film's main producer is Arzu Aliyeva, with Orman Aliyev as producer. It was directed by Zaur Gasimli, with screenwriters Ismayil Iman, Asif Isgandarli, and Zaur Gasimli. Vladimir Artemyev served as cinematographer, Sabuhi Atababayev as production designer, Vusal Rahim as costume designer, and Etibar Asadli as composer.
A talented cast features People’s Artists Parviz Mammadrzayev (as Taghiyev) and Gurban Ismayilov, along with Honored Artists Rasim Jafar, Elshan Rustamov, and Natavan Hajiyeva portraying historical figures.
