Thailand seizes over 330 mln meth pills in 3-month drug crackdown
Baku, January 19, AZERTAC
Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced on Monday the results of a counternarcotics operation over the last three months, including the seizure of over 330 million methamphetamine pills and 1.1 tons of crystal meth, Xinhua reported.
According to authorities, 89,076 drug-related cases were processed between Oct. 1 and Jan. 18, leading to the arrest of 88,421 suspects. Meanwhile, assets totaling 3.37 billion baht (around 107.84 million U.S. dollars) were frozen pending legal proceedings.
During a press conference, Anutin, who is also the minister of interior, said the success of this major crackdown is a testament to the dedication of all agencies united to root out drug networks.
The Thai government has pledged to fully support officers with policy, resources, and protection to ensure they can perform their duties with integrity and fairness, he added.
He noted that the government has approved emergency budget funds to procure high-performance mobile X-ray vehicles for the Royal Thai Police to improve the detection of concealed drugs at checkpoints.
The prime minister also urged the public to utilize the emergency hotline to report suspicious activity, emphasizing that public cooperation is vital to the eradication of illicit drugs.
