TURKEY CONDEMNS LOCAL GOVERNMENT “ELECTIONS” IN NAGORNO-KARABAKH
The Turkish Foreign Ministry has made a statement condemning the local government “elections” conducted on Sunday by the separatist regime in Nagorno-Karabakh. The statement says these elections undermine efforts for a peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Turkey’s Foreign Ministry’s statement says: “We regard local government elections, which followed the “presidential elections” on July 19 in the Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh region occupied by Armenia, as a major violation of international legal standards. The elections aiming to legitimatize the “government” of the separatist regime in Nagorno-Karabakh signify the violation of the international law and principles of the UN Security Council, OSCE and Council of Europe.
Local government elections conducted October 14 in Nagorno-Karabakh are the disregard for OSCE Minsk Group-led peace talks on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Turkey strongly condemns such acts targeting sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and urges the world community not to recognize illegal “elections”.
