UNESCO, AZERBAIJAN: RELATIONS EXPANDING
After election of the First Lady of Azerbaijan, president of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, MP Mehriban Khanum Aliyeva as the UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, the relations between Azerbaijan and the Organization quickly develop.
On Mehriban Aliyeva’s initiative, a number of projects in the science, education and cultural fields were implemented. The Azerbaijani mughams and Gobustan Monuments were included to the lists of World Cultural Heritage, series of international events on education and culture were arranged.
One of the events connected to Azerbaijan was marking the 100th jubilee of the prominent Azeri scholar, academician Yusif Mammadaliyev in the framework of UNESCO in France, which aroused high interest. Jubilee of the famous carpet-weaver Latif Karimov was also marked at UNESCO level.
As stated, the Executive Council of UNESCO is going to mark centenary jubilees of the famous literary scholar of Azerbaijan Mir Jalal Pashayev, academician Musa Aliyev, renowned artist Sattar Bahlulzade and 100th anniversary of the first opera in the East “Leyli and Majnun”.
