Uruguay, Azerbaijan discuss prospects for cooperation
Baku, May 8 (AZERTAC). Members of Azerbaijan-Uruguay inter-parliamentary working group have met former President of Uruguay, Senator Luis Alberto Lacalle to discuss prospects for bilateral cooperation.
Head of the working group Javanshir Feyziyev praised the visit of Uruguay`s respected political figure to Azerbaijan. He said development of bilateral ties covering political and economic fields promoted mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
Feyziyev pointed out that parliaments play certain role in boosting relationship. He added reciprocal visits by inter-parliamentary working groups make contribution to bilateral cooperation.
The MP increased awareness of the Senator about the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, saying on 8 May 1992, the Armenian troops invaded Azerbaijan’s ancient city of Shusha. “Invaders have razed Azerbaijan`s cultural monuments by ignoring international laws”.
Alberto Lacalle hailed rapid development of Azerbaijan. He described the country as “tolerant”, saying believers of all faiths co-exist in peace in Azerbaijan.
The Senator said Uruguay and Azerbaijan have certain similarities. Lacalle vowed he would develop a report on his Azerbaijan visit and submit it to Uruguay`s President. “The report will feature various issues, including religious tolerance and economic progress of Azerbaijan.”
