USA-GUAM MEETING HELD IN WASHINGTON
“The Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” conference was held at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, AZERTAC correspondent reported. The national coordinators of member countries, the Organization’s Secretary General Valery Chechelashvili spoke of priorities of their activity, GUAM’s role in development of democracy in region and potential in energy and transport projects, as well as the partnership relations with USA, Japan, Poland and the European Union.
The event was organized in the framework of visit of the GUAM representatives to Washington.
The conferees on 30 October held discussions with the officials of the Department of State and US Justice Ministry.
As noted, official Washington highly appreciated the efforts of GUAM states to use the Organization as forum for propaganda of economic, socio-political and security agenda in region and supports its relations with the partners like the European Union, Japan, Poland, Lithuania.
As a result of discussions, the participants have adopted a Declaration, where it is emphasized that have been specified new potential spheres of cooperation and possible common interest between USA and GUAM. The Declaration underlines that the discussions are preparatory debates for GUAM-USA dialogue due in the framework of the meeting of foreign ministers of the OSCE member countries in Madrid on 29-30 November.
