On October 4, Ogtay Asadov, speaker of Milli Majlis (Parliament of Azerbaijan) met with the Chairman of AGO Monitoring Group of the Committee of Ministers Per Sjögren and Secretary of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio.

The sides stressed the need to speed up their activity to enhance the bilateral cooperation. They discussed the upcoming Presidential elections in Azerbaijan and the reforms being implemented in the country’s judicial system. Mr. Sjögren and Mr. Buquicchio highly valued the creation of the new judicial system in Azerbaijan, as well as amendments made in Electoral Code of Azerbaijan on the proposals put forward by the Venice Commission.

Mr. Davis expressed his gratitude to Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev for work done to improve the social welfare of the population. He expressed hope that the relations between the Council of Europe and Azerbaijan would further expand.

Speaker of Milli Majlis also visited Azerbaijan’s permanent representation under the Council of Europe.
