“YOUTH AGAINST AIDS” CONFERENCE HELD IN BAKU
The “Youth against AIDS” conference was held today at the Park Inn Azerbaijan hotel in Baku.
Addressing the event, Azeri minister of youth and sports Azad Rahimov and health minister Oqtay Shiraliyev said likewise other countries Azerbaijan has also suffered from AIDS over last 25 years.
They said in Azerbaijan, 513 HIV infected people are between the ages of 30 and 39, while 253 between 25-29.
The speakers spoke of projects and surveys conducted to raise awareness of the risks and causes of HIV.
Hanna Singer, Head of UNICEF Office in Baku, and Nafis Sadik, Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General and the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Asia and the Pacific, stressed it is important that international and non-governmental organizations combine efforts to strengthen the fight against HIV/AIDS.
