1st AZERBAIJAN-GERMANY ENERGY FORUM BEGINS IN BAKU
The first Azerbaijan-Germany energy forum started at the Hyatt Regency-Nakhchivan hotel in Baku Tuesday.
Opening the forum, which gathered mostly representatives of the two countries` energy companies, Azerbaijan`s deputy foreign minister Mahmud Mammadquliyev stressed Azerbaijan`s growing importance in energy security in Europe.
Pointing to a memorandum on energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union, Mahmud Mammadquliyev said his country signed a similar document with the United States of America.
“And today we start a dialog on energy cooperation with Germany”, the Azerbaijani deputy minister added.
Senior official at the German Foreign Office Viktor Elbling said his country regards Azerbaijan as one of its strategic partners, adding Azerbaijan`s importance to Germany and European Union is rapidly growing.
The German diplomat said that the European Union is the largest purchaser of Azerbaijan`s oil, and that the country has become an example to others in applying the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative.
Viktor Elbling said German companies are interested in making long-term investments in Azerbaijan.
