2nd International Puppet Theater Festival kicks off in Baku
Baku, November 9 (AZERTAC). The 2nd International Puppet Theater Festival has opened in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku with a solemn ceremony.
The festival is co-organized by Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, International Puppetry Association, and Azerbaijan State Puppet Theatre after Abdullah Shaig.
Speaking to the opening ceremony, deputy minister of culture and tourism Adalat Valiyev said the festival was organized under “The Azerbaijani Theatre in 2009-2019” State Program. The deputy Minister praised President Ilham Aliyev`s attention to developing culture and arts in the country, particularly improving the activities of theatres.
Valiyev said a number of works would be staged in Azerbaijan State Puppet Show after Abdullah Shaig, Azerbaijan State Russian Drama Theatre after Samad Vurgun and State Theatre of Young Spectator as part of the festival.
Jacques Trudeau, Secretary General of International Puppetry Association, highlighted the activities of the organization, which groups puppet theatres from 87 countries.
The festival will feature performance of Azerbaijan State Puppet Theatre after Abdullah Shaig and Gakh State Puppet Theatre, as well as theatres from the United Kingdom, Japan, Italy, Bulgaria, Croatia, Switzerland, Hungary and Tatarstan.
Baku hosted the first International Puppet Theater Festival in 2011.
