Maimunah Mohd Sharif, former Executive Director of UN-Habitat, former Mayor of Kuala Lumpur and Advisor on Sustainable Urbanization to the Government of Malaysia, told journalists on the sidelines of the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13) that the forum serves as an important platform for discussing urbanization challenges.
She noted that this year’s session focuses on the theme “Housing the World: Safe and Resilient Cities and Communities.”
“Housing is not only shelter, but also a reflection of human dignity and societal well-being. Accessibility, affordability, and adequacy must be the core principles of housing policy. The placement of settlements far from workplaces increases carbon emissions,” she emphasized.
