Azerbaijan cooperates with major Chinese companies on nearly 50 joint projects

“Trade and economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and China continues to develop steadily, with positive momentum. China is among Azerbaijan’s key economic and trade partners, while Azerbaijan is China’s largest trading partner in the South Caucasus. Since 1995, $976 million in direct investment has been made from China into Azerbaijan, while Azerbaijani investments in China have totaled $1.9 billion,” said Shahin Mustafayev, Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, during a reception in Baku marking the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Shahin Mustafayev emphasized that investment cooperation between Azerbaijan and China has maintained positive momentum. A total of 455 Chinese companies currently operate in various sectors of the Azerbaijani economy, including industry, agriculture, transport, construction, trade and services. Meanwhile, nearly 50 joint projects covering different sectors are being carried out with major Chinese companies.
The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the important role of the transport and transit sector in Azerbaijan-China cooperation, noting that transit cargo volumes reached 272,600 tons in the first seven months of 2026, up 8 percent compared with the same period last year.
He added that efforts are underway to further expand trade ties and promote Azerbaijani products on the Chinese market.
