German speed skater Pechstein breaks Winter Olympics record

German speed skater Claudia Pechstein, who took part in the 3000 meters race at the Beijing Olympics, has repeated the record for the number of participations in the Winter Olympics.
This Olympics was Pechstein`s eighth in his career. She equaled record holder Japanese ski jumper Noriaki Kasai, who competed in eight consecutive Olympic Games from 1992 to 2018.
Pechstein also became the oldest participant in the Winter Olympics, surpassing the record of Anna Abernathy, who represented the US Virgin Islands, who participated in the 2002 Olympics at the age of 48 years 307 days. Pechstein will turn 50 on February 22.
However, she will not become the oldest representative of speed skating at the Winter Olympics. This record belongs to Briton Albert Tebbit, who was 52 years old at the time of participation in the 1924 Olympics.
