Berlin hosts “Echoes of the Homeland” piano evening

Co-organized by the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Germany and the Azerbaijani Cultural Center in Berlin, a piano evening titled “Echoes of the Homeland,” featuring Azerbaijan’s Honored Artist Nargiz Aliyar, was held in Berlin on September 16.
Marking National Music Day, celebrated on September 18, the event opened with a German-language film dedicated to renowned Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibayli.
Addressing the event, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Germany Nasimi Aghayev said the evening featured works by renowned international and Azerbaijani composers, highlighting pianist Professor Nargiz Aliyar’s contribution to promoting Azerbaijani music worldwide.
He noted the special significance of the event, which coincided with National Music Day and Uzeyir Hajibayli’s birthday, saying that the composer blended Azerbaijani musical traditions, particularly mugham, with European classical forms.
A newly published collection of Hajibayli’s works was also presented, with copies distributed to music schools and libraries in Germany and other German-speaking countries.
Director of the Azerbaijani Cultural Center Elgun Niftali highlighted the importance of the event and the promotion of Uzeyir Hajibayli’s rich legacy. He noted that the newly published sheet music collection in Germany would help introduce the composer’s works to the country’s musical community.
Professor Nargiz Aliyar thanked the organizers and noted Hajibayli’s lasting contribution to Azerbaijan’s musical history as a composer, teacher, and cultural figure.
The event concluded with Aliyar performing Azerbaijani and world classical works, earning a standing ovation from the audience.
