MONUMENT TO GENIUS AZERBAIJAN POET ERECTED IN TASHKENT
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov took part at the event, also attended by members of the Azerbaijan delegation, heads of the diplomatic missions accredited in Tashkent, representatives of Azerbaijani Diaspora and Uzbek public. Governor of the city Rustam Shoabdurahmanov opened the ceremony.
In his remarks, President Islam Karimov spoke of the relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, congratulated the audience with the opening of the monument to one of the genius personalities that unite the two peoples. He assessed this monument as a token of deep respect and consideration to the fraternal people of Azerbaijan, its ancient history and culture. President Islam Karimov expressed his confidence that President Ilham Aliyev would not spare himself for development of the Azerbaijani-Uzbek relations founded by the national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev.
Speaking of the Azerbaijani-Uzbek ties, President Ilham Aliyev said that this visit would play a significant role in development of bilateral relations, and that recently would be opened a monument to the Uzbek poet Alishir Navai to be attend by the Uzbek President Islam Karimov and other guests. Head of the Azerbaijani state, on behalf of the government and people of Azerbaijan expressed deep gratitude to the people of Uzbekistan and President Islam Karimov for respect and honor to the Azerbaijani poet and thinker Nizami.
We assess Uzbekistan as a necessary country for Azerbaijan and the friendship of our peoples with common historical roots will be always strong, the head of Azerbaijani State emphasized.
After the state anthems of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan were performed, President Ilham Aliyev and President Islam Karimov laid flowers on the monument.
