Nargiz Pashayeva awarded French Order of Academic Palms
Baku, May 24 (AZERTAC). Rector of the Baku branch of Moscow State University (MSU), PhD, Professor Nargiz Pashayeva has been awarded the Ordre des Palmes Academiques (Order of Academic Palms).
A presentation of the French Order of Academic Palms of officer's degree to the rector of the Baku branch of Moscow State University was held in the French Embassy in Azerbaijan.
The ceremony was attended by head of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration's Department on Humanitarian Policy Fatma Abdullazade, Education Minister Mikayil Jabbarov, President of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan Akif Alizadeh, Rector of the National Aviation Academy, academician Arif Pashayev, Chairwoman of the State Student Admission Commission Maleyka Abbaszade, Chairwoman of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Hijran Huseynova, ambassadors of foreign countries accredited in Azerbaijan, prominent scientific, educational, cultural and art figures.
Opening the ceremony, Ambassador of France to Azerbaijan Pascal Meunier welcomed the guests who came to the embassy in honour of Nargiz Pashayeva who has long been working for the development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and France.
The ambassador noted that the award was created under Napoleon, and recently, in 2008, France celebrated the bicentennial of the Order of Academic Palms.
According to him, the decision to confer this high award upon Nargiz Pashayeva is also the recognition of her role among leading personalities promoting the opening of Azerbaijan to the world.
Then, on behalf of the French government, Ambassador Pascal Meunier awarded Nargiz Pashayeva the Order of Academic Palms of officer's degree.
In her speech, Nargiz Pashayeva noted that today is one of the happiest moments of her life. "I want to express appreciation, gratitude and great respect to the French state and leaders who voted for my candidacy in Paris, the French Embassy in Azerbaijan and personally to you, Mr. Ambassador, for such a high award. This award, which was established by Napoleon in 1808, is the personification of appreciation and attention to the sacred mission of education and science, which make a brighter, more successful future and the future of every individual and society as a whole.”
“If my research and teaching activities are presented in such prestigious organizations, this pride, this honour, joy and inspiration inspire me and give me the strength and faith. You, Mr. Ambassador, visited our university and brought me these joyful and pleasant tidings that pleased not only me, but also our entire university, students and teaching staff. Because we are one family, the university family".
According to her, Azerbaijan, which has an ancient culture and history, for centuries, nurtured prominent educators, scientists and artists.
Pashayeva once again expressed her great appreciation to those present at the ceremony, ambassadors, prominent figures, colleagues, students, family, all employees of the French Embassy in Azerbaijan, and in particular the ambassador for the event, sincerity and hospitality.
The Order of Academic Palms takes its origin from the Order (as an organization) established on 19 March 1808 by Emperor Napoleon I for academicians and professors of the University of Paris, and some high schools. Currently, the Order of Academic Palms may be awarded to teachers and members of the teaching community, persons unrelated to teaching, but who have made significant contributions to education, as well as foreign nationals and French living outside France, actively contributing to the spread of French culture in other countries. Nominations for the awards are considered in the Council of the Order of Academic Palms chaired by the Minister of National Education of France. The Board, in addition to the minister, includes one member of the Order of the Legion of Honour and the head of inspections of the Ministry of Education. Decisions are made by majority vote. List of awardees is ratified by the Prime Minister of France.
