AFGHANISTAN KEEN ON COOPERATING WITH AZERBAIJAN
Azerbaijan’s ambassador in Afghanistan Eynulla Madatli met in Kabul with this country’s officials, Azerbaijani soldiers serving here and businessmen.
Ambassador conferred with deputy Foreign Minister for political affairs Mohammad Kabir Farahi, deputy chief of the Ministry’s third political department Mohammad Akbar Mohammad about Azerbaijan-Afghanistan relations, cooperation within international and regional organizations including United Nations, Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) and Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
M. K. Farahi highlighted historical, cultural and religious ties between the two peoples and dwelt on the meeting held on the sidelines of the ECO summit between Presidents Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan and Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan during the former’s visit to Baku in May last year and that in June last year during the OIC summit.
According to the Deputy Minister, Afghanistan needs economic and political support from Azerbaijan, and wants to attract Azerbaijan’s state-run and private companies to the country. Afghan officials praised Azerbaijan’s achievements in the energy sector.
At the initial stage, E. Madatli proposed to expand relations between Foreign Ministries. The Diplomat stressed some Azerbaijani companies function in Afghanistan, including the Azerbaijan Air Lines. Ambassador invited Mohammad Kabir Farahi to visit Azerbaijan.
At the meeting with Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Zarar Ahmad Mokbel, the sides stressed the importance of cooperation in the fight against international terrorism, illegal drugs turnover and trafficking in humans. Afghan Minister said his country is going to use Azerbaijan experience in restoring public order in the country and eliminating the crime.
Z. A. Mokbel recalled his meeting with Azerbaijani counterpart on the sidelines of the OIC conference and said he intends to visit Azerbaijan soon.
Ambassador visited the military unit in which Azerbaijani soldiers serve as a part of the International Security Assistance Force.
Ambassador and embassy’s representative Ibrahim Gafarov presented Novruz holiday gifts to the servicemen.
Ambassador also visited the AZAL office in Kabul.
