Air France to cancel more flights than feared amid strike
Baku, September 15 (AZERTAC). Air France-KLM AF.FR -3.34% said late Saturday that the airline would only operate four out of 10 scheduled flights on Monday because of a strike by pilots. The main pilot union at the French arm of the Franco-Dutch airline last month called for a one-week strike starting Monday to protest cost-cutting measures.
Air France this week laid out plans to recapture market share from lower-cost airlines, including the transfer of most of its short- and medium-haul services to its lower-cost unit Transavia Airlines.
Pilots are concerned the airline will use the services` transfer to change working conditions.
The company`s Chief Executive Frederic Gagey said Friday a strike that would force the cancellation of 50% of flights would lead to a loss of between €10 million ($12.9 million) to €15 million a day.
