Albania aims to conclude EU accession talks by 2027
Baku, February 25, AZERTAC
Albania aims to wrap up technical negotiations on European Union membership by 2027 and will maintain its current pace of reforms, senior Socialist lawmaker Taulant Balla said after meeting European Parliament’s rapporteur for Albania, Andreas Schieder, in Brussels. Balla, head of the Socialist Party’s parliamentary group and co-chair of the EU-Albania Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee, thanked Schieder for the European Parliament’s draft resolution on Albania and its positive assessment of the country’s progress toward EU integration, according to the Albanian News Agency (ATA).
According to Balla, talks focused on the progress of accession negotiations and Tirana’s strategic objective of wrapping up the technical phase by 2027.
He reaffirmed Albania’s “unwavering commitment” to maintain the current momentum, noting that all negotiating clusters were opened in record time last year and that the government stands ready to move toward closing chapters once the relevant benchmarks are met.
The role of the European Parliament and its annual report on Albania was highlighted as a guiding instrument for advancing reforms, particularly in the areas of rule of law, strengthening democratic institutions, fighting corruption and aligning legislation with the EU acquis, according to a statement on the meeting.
Balla expressed appreciation for the parliament’s continued support and Schieder’s engagement in monitoring Albania’s progress, saying close inter-parliamentary cooperation remains essential to ensuring a transparent and democratically grounded accession process.
The two sides reaffirmed that EU enlargement is a key factor for European security and stability, and underscored Albania’s full alignment with the bloc’s Common Foreign and Security Policy.
