Azerbaijan and Spain hold fifth round of political consultations

On October 7-8, Elnur Mammadov, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister, paid a visit to the Kingdom of Spain.
During the visit, the fifth round of political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain was held in Madrid.
The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov, while the Spanish delegation was headed by State Secretary for Foreign and Global Affairs Diego Martinez Belio.
During the consultations, the sides discussed the current state and prospects of relations between the two countries in the political, economic, energy, green energy, cultural, educational, tourism, transport and logistics, and other fields. In this context, the sides exchanged views on promoting trade and investment, as well as cooperation within the framework of the Strategic Economic Dialogue.
The meeting emphasized the importance of continuing mutual support within international organizations. The sides also considered opportunities for exchanging experience and developing practical cooperation in the field of humanitarian demining.
As part of the visit, the Azerbaijani delegation met with Pilar Sanchez-Bella Solis, Director for International Affairs at the Office of the Spanish President.
Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov also met with Javier Maroto, Vice-President of the Senate of Spain. The sides emphasized the importance of promoting parliamentary diplomacy and the role of inter-parliamentary relations in developing bilateral ties.
Elnur Mammadov also delivered a presentation on “Azerbaijan’s Foreign Policy” to faculty members and students at the Diplomatic School of Spain.
During the visit, the Deputy Foreign Minister also gave interviews to leading Spanish media outlets on the current state of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Spain and prospects for future cooperation.
