Baku, October 8, AZERTAC
“Azerbaijan has been re-elected to the Advisory Committee of the International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (ITSO) for 2026–2028,” said Sitara Mehdiyeva, head of the Spectrum Management Division at Azercosmos, the CIS Regional Co-Lead for the Global Satellite Operators Association (GSOA), and the official candidate from the Republic of Azerbaijan for Region C of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Radio Regulations Board (RRB), an interview regarding her participation in the ITSO Symposium and the 42nd Meeting of the Assembly of Parties (AP-42) in Washington.
She noted that speaking at the ITSO Symposium’s “Voices of the Regions: National Perspectives” panel, she highlighted national priorities in satellite communications, including service access and affordability, resilience, radio-frequency spectrum management, regulatory challenges, and international cooperation.
The panel also highlighted the regulatory difficulties arising from complex “landing rights” requirements in some countries, as well as the need for greater support and capacity building for developing countries.
The Azerbaijani representative noted that her first participation in the ITSO 42nd Assembly of Parties meeting was an important opportunity to learn more about the organization’s activities and exchange views with colleagues from different regions.
Sitara Mehdiyeva emphasized that Azerbaijan’s re-election to the ITSO Consultative Committee for 2026–2028 will allow the country to continue contributing to the organization’s activity.
