AZERBAIJAN ATTRACTS SPANISH BUSINESSMEN
Deputy President of the National Confederation Gumbat Guliyev opening the event, in which the entrepreneurs of the both countries participated, told of the situation of the Azerbaijani-Spanish economic ties. He reminded that the first steps in this direction were made after Azerbaijan gained its independence. In 1995 trade turnover between the two countries amounted to USD1.4 million, while in 1998 - USD5.1 million. For 6 months of 2003, this indicator constitutes USD264.3 million. USD23 million fall on the share of import while 241.3 million - to the export. Azerbaijan buys from Spain construction materials, industrial equipment and food products, exporting oil and oil products, nuts and hazelnuts to this country. Spanish company “Reps oil” has share of 5% in the “Kurdashli” field.
Ambassador of Spain to Ankara Manuel dela Kamor, embassy’s Advisor on trade Eduardo Euba, Director of the Department of international relations of the Confederation of Employers of Spain Hose Garsia Morales, Deputy Secretary General of the National Confederation of entrepreneurs’ organizations of the Azerbaijan Republic Gulshan Rzayeva, Spanish and Azerbaijani businessmen noted that existing economic ties are far behind the capacity of the both countries, stressing in particular the necessity of cooperation in the non-oil sector.
It was informed that at present the work goes over the draft agreements “On encouragement and protection of investments”, “On elimination of double taxation” and “On air transportation”, which will be signed between Azerbaijan and Spain.
After the seminar, meeting between the representatives of companies of the both sides, functioning in the field of production and sale of construction materials, foreign trade, agriculture and telecommunication was held.
